What’s The Best Celly For This Biz?
Posted on May 18th, 2008 in General
If you're tired of refreshing this page every day like a d-bag, you should probably subscribe to the RSS feed.
Okay, right now Nickycakes has the LG enV (vx9900) which he got around christmas time and has been pretty good. There are, however, a few lacking features that could really help for affiliate marketing/webmastering/networking/whatever that the vx9900 does not have.
The most important feature that the enV doesn’t have that Nickycakes needs is a SSH client. These verizon phones have some crappy OS that makes it very expensive to write software for it, which means applications like SSH and stuff are nonexistent. Although it hasn’t happened yet, at some point, one of the Cakes’ servers is going to go down while he’s on vacation or something with no internet access and there will be no way to fix stuff remotely on the cell.
The web browser sucks. There is no way to save passwords so logging into twitter each time is a pain. Checking affiliate stats is impossible because of some security issue with website encryption keys and the phones system. So there needs to be a good web browser.
This kinda ties in with the SSH thing, but an IRC client would be nice too. The enV has instant messaging and all that, which is pretty sweet, but there is no IRC client.
I’m sure the obvious answer is to just get an iPhone, but the enV has a few things that are way better than the iPhone. First, the flip open qwerty keyboard is great. Iphones keyboard system blows. The fact that you can feel the buttons when you dial instead of having to look at the phone when dialing is great as well. Iphones break too easily, are bulky, kinda ugly, too expensive, trendy, and locked into using AT&T (the worst cellphone provider) for a lot of the features. They do have wireless internet and stuff though which looks pretty sweet.
Anyway, the Cakes wants your input. What’s the best phone for internet marketing?

Simple get a Blackberry and install Opera mini as your browser. The Curve has the biggest screen right now, the Bold will be way sweeter if you want to wait for it.
Another thing, buy it off contract so you don’t have to sign up for a useless data-plan.

I think it would be cool to have a phone with a web browser (like the iphone or something). That way you could start/stop/manage your adwords and other stuff wherever you are! I’ve already had an instance where this would have been awesome.
Later,
Nick

Check out the nokia n82, or any of the nokia n series (one has a qwerty i think). They have the symbian os, to which someone has ported pretty much every application you can imagine (ssh with private key support, vnc, opera, nes emulators, gps stuff). in addition to all the fancy crap they are good phones as far as making calls goes. look up symbian on youtube people are fanatic enough about it to have posted thousands of videos.

This is nice, a little bit though.

oh, and expensive but with that affiliate income shouldn’t be a problem.
I’d also like to try this out http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3195222&CatId=1807

iphone is your best option by far…

I’ve got to agree with the mobile broadband card as well. You know your ass is taking your laptop when you travel
There are cheap plans now - and you can pick up a low end laptop just for this purpose so you don’t give a rats ass if it breaks or you lose it.
I bought a used laptop in the classifieds for 190 bucks - wiped it and installed xp on it. It sits here and plays music until I get in the car. Then it goes with me.

I have an iPhone and use it to check my Commission Junction stats every day. I love it; get one, hack/unlock it, get some nice 3rd party apps and you’re good to go.
The second gen is coming next month (June) so you may as well wait and check that out.

Get a Symbian phone like a Nokia E90(if you want a QWERTY keyboard) or a N95. Theres thousands of applications and games for the Symbian platform, including SSH and IRC. I love my N95

Nokia E90 gets my vote

Nokia 9300 FTW.
Can be picked up, UNLOCKED, on eBay for around $130 - and runs everything you asked for. JMIrc - PuttySSH - Full Browser w/ multi-windows, .DOC/.XLS Editing, IMAP client, PDFs, AIM/IM+, MAME/EMUs, FTP, DIVX/MP3s, etc. Full QWERTY keypad, even has PHP editors avail. Sim card based, use it worldwide. (For when you go visit Amit.) Easy to jack into Linux/Windows/OSX as a GPRS/EDGE modem.
Still not sold? The “I’m a Mac” kid uses it in Die Hard 4.

I have gone through a ton of phones trying to find what actually pleases me and I would have to say I ended up with a LG envy also.
I tried out the treo for quite awhile but it wasn’t my thing, you could run irc on that along with lots of other apps though…
Still…right now, in my area, hands down the envy.

Id wait a couple of weeks to see what the new iPhone OS 2.0 looks like.
May 20th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Yeah, looks like you can’t even buy the iphone from the apple site right now…as it says “unavailable” in the apple store - a telltale sign that a new iphone is coming in June.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:39 am
Nokia N90, it’s got SSH support and everything else you need
May 20th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
i can’t believe nobody mentioned the Blackberry. if you’re a true businessman, every phone lacks in comparison to the BB in terms of its features and 3rd party apps. nicky, if i were you, i’d get the blackberry curve that just came out for verizon.

Hi.
I’m sure you don’t give a shit for what I think, but I just unsubscribed from your feed because it is partial, and it sucks a lot to read partial feeds in mobile devices.
Good luck.

What about a blackberry? I’m thinking about getting one of these because I’m with Verizon and I can’t get the iPhone!
I’m thinking something must be wrong with that video then if your GF has gone through three of them. She’s gone through three and i’m guessing she hasn’t even been deliberately dropping them on the cement either.

I’m very happy with my Nokia E61. It has a qwerty keyboard, a big-ass screen, and support for all the functions you need.
I ssh into all my servers all the time via putty and it works great. I also check my stats and earnings with it too
May 21st, 2008 at 8:19 pm
I have an enV also. I ended up picking up a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. Its small enough to fit in your back pocket and has more features than I want to list. Its great for vacations and the like though.

My brother just got given an HTC Advantage from his work…
Dude, you want to be able to work on your shit from your phone, get one of those… It’s a computer that makes phone calls, not a phone.
Sure, it’s the size of a small novel, but it’s got the power of a laptop.
There’s also the HTC Shift. Even better, although you may as well get it as a replacement laptop than as a phone.
Failing those, then my next recommendation is the Nokia e90.

Hey man, the New iPhone will be ideal for you, if you want when the new one comes out shoot me an email and i will guide you to unlocking it and helping you install all the apps on it. I have the old one right now, i can go to all publisher sites, its got a VNC controller so incase u need to login to your computer you can. And it has NATIVE ssh and terminal access so that is what i think. wait for the new iPhone, i think you’ll love it!
