Nickycakes Wins Affiliate of the Year 2010

That’s right, Nickycakes comes from behind to claim the Affiliate Summit 2010 Pinnacle Award for Affiliate of the Year.  Some guy named Joe Souza handicapped Cakes as a 20-1 longshot to take the award (reprinted by some idiots) and today was forced to eat his words.

Anyway, Nickycakes was up against some good competition, Eric Nagel and Kim Rowley.  Eric is a pretty cool guy, and although Cakes doesn’t know what he does necessarily, he was pretty cool to have breakfast with along with Andrew Wee and this tea lady named Loxly the morning of the awards.  Kim was also nominated for the award last year and is apparently pretty well known in the affiliate marketing space.  Congrats to them for being nominated.  Hopefully next year the winner will be decided by acai berry jello 3 way cage match.

Nicky didn’t say much other than “thank you” when getting the award, but he would like to say a few things about Affiliate Summit.  ASW 08 was Nicky’s first show, and was instrumental in getting him to where he’s at today.  Shawn and Missy have been working really hard to bring the two best conferences to the affiliate marketing space, and it seems they don’t get enough props.  Without them, many many marketers would probably be working dayjobs.

Ok, there were several other awards handed out:

  • Matt McWilliams (Legacy Learning Systems)- Affiliate Manager of the Year
  • Ebay Partner Network – Exceptional Merchant (LOL)
  • Angel Djambazov – Affiliate Marketing Advocate
  • Jeremy Shoemaker (Shoemone) – Best Blogger
  • Scott Jangro – Affiliate Marketing Legend

Alright, so after the awards were handed out, everyone got on stage for a photo op, and the first thing Nicky did was shake the hand of the moron taking the award for eBay Partner Network, and ask “How do you feel about having screwed all your affiliates over after banning a good portion of your legitimate high-volume affiliates and with the recent negative changes to your program?”  He tried to argue a bit by saying that Nickycakes was probably hearing such things from a “vocal minority,” and further remarked that many people were doing very well under the new rules.  Nicky replied, truthfully, that it was literally impossible for anyone’s revenue to have increased after the change, with most people seeing decreases in revenue of about 75%.  He had no answer for this other than to say it wasn’t true (it is).  eBay Partner Network, you get the Nickycakes Pinnacle Award for worst re-vamped affiliate program in the history of re-vamped affiliate programs.  Congratulations, you may pick up your award at your convenience in Edmonson Village, Baltimore. Wear a steelers jersey.

The blogger award…thank god it didn’t go to Murray Newlands.  After having talked with many people at the show, it’s clear that Murray has probably never done any affiliate marketing work of his own, and simply runs a blog just like the rest of referral shills, trying to attract people to his network referral links for a living.  Murray actually approached Nickycakes and told him that he would love to bury the hatchet by exchanging interviews.  Uh..yeah…Cakes will get right on that one…  Congrats to Shoemoney who, has actually transformed in the few years Nicky has been in the industry from a John Chow type who brags about big checks but doesn’t actually write much useful content, to someone who sticks his neck out for other people in the industry and has some really good stuff to say.  Well deserved.

So, many people have been asking, “How did they decide you were the the best affiliate of the year?”  Well, the truth is, nobody knows how much Nicky makes except for his accountant and the guys writing the checks.  Anyone else can only speculate.  For all they know, Nicky actually works at the car wash in north Vegas shining peoples rims.  The only thing Nicky could think of as a basis for being given this award is his blog content which must at least have a hint of being written by someone with first hand knowledge.  If this is the case, thank you Affiliate Summit advisory board.  If it’s not the case, Nickycakes hopes you guys didn’t hurt your wrists when you pinned pictures of the nominees up on the wall, blindfolded yourselves, and started throwing darts to choose the winner.

Keep it real!
