If you don’t need any of the other services they charge for (like access to your traffic statistics) then you’re an idiot. The bottom line is, you can get a much higher level of service in terms of bandwidth, disk space, and support from another company like hostgator.

Why is everyone so down on GODADDY? I’ve been using them for over 2 yrs w/o any problems. $7 .com domains, $7/mo Deluxe hosting, and don’t need any of the other services they charge for. Tech Svc. answers right away and elevates the problem to people who have answers if necessary. Only real trouble I’ve had is conflicting with comcast email – but that’s been a comcrap problem.

Yeah. I’ll make a tutorial on it at some point, but you can just search for “header redirects” on google and probably get some good info. It’s pretty simple.

This is really interesting info. I’m keen to learn more about the use of the script you have in place, as well as redirects and masking.

Very good question, and certainly not a noob one. That link redirects to my affiliate link at hostgator. When I refer someone to hostgator, I make a small commission. The reason I make my affiliate links like that is for three reasons:
1) I am better able to track who clicks what links because I have a script in place that records what page the person came from, where they went, what time, ip, etc. whenever someone clicks one of the links.
2) Affiliate links look ugly and people are less likely to click them.
3) Google penalizes people for having affiliate links on their sites, so by masking the url with a redirect like I’ve done, I am able to protect myself a little better.

Why are your outbound links, such as the one for HostGator, not directed at the site itself, but instead at nickcakes.com/links/hostgator?

What is the benefit there?

The monetize link was missing for me too until I turned off Adblocker

Along with those, I want some stats so I run the google analytics plugin. What do you use to track your stats? I was using Live and liked it, but it broke on my wp-mu ( I uninstalled it after I kept getting database connection problems, not live’s fault directly and couldn’t get it reinstalled ).
