Affiliate Network Downtime Alerts

One potential problem with running traffic to an affiliate network is relying on their tracking system.  All traffic must pass through their tracking links, which means if their servers fail, then all the customers you’re sending will not reach their destination, which means you don’t get paid.  If you’ve been in the affiliate marketing game for a couple years, you’ll probably remember a few instances where major tracking systems have gone down due to DDOS, upgrades, or possibly some network exec tripping over the network cable as he is lugging his dufflebags of money out of the office.

Soooo, Nickycakes coded up a little tool that pings affiliate networks tracking links, and will issue alerts if the tracking fails.

You can currently be alerted 2 ways:

  • Hang out in Cakes Chat.  If one of the networks tracking systems goes down, a bot will alert the channel.  This is also a great place to meet people in the industry, ask questions, and start arguments.
  • Follow @networkuptime on twitter.  That will automatically be updated as well.  You can even have it send updates to your phone if you enable it in twitter settings.

Currently it tracks the following networks: Ads4Dough, Neverblue, Mediatrust, Convert2Media, CX Digital, Copeac, Azoogle, Affiliate.com, EWA, Hydra, Clickbooth, Yep Revenue, Monetizeit, Profit Kings Media, and Maxbounty.  Keep in mind that it’s only being run on one VPS out of texas, so there’s the possibility for it to return a bogus result, but it’s worked well for the past month it has been in test mode.

If you would like a network you use to be added, or if you’re a network and want Nicky to add you to the list, please post it in the comments, preferably with a sample tracking link for that network.

Enjoy.

EDIT: If you suggest a network, include a sample tracking link.  I will remove the link from comments afterwords.
